SCERT (State Council of Educational Research & Training) conducted one day orientation program on cleanliness of river Yamuna at Thyagraj Stadium, New Delhi on 19th February, 2020. The programme was attended by Private Schools of all the Zones under DOE (Directorate of Education, New Delhi).
The programme was started with lamp lightening along with Saraswati Vandana by students of B.Ed I and II year. Thereafter, saplings were presented as token of love to the dignatories of different department of Government of India. The gathering was addressed by the Director Dr. Shashi Bala Saini SCERT and disclosed the objective of the orientation programme.
Dr. Nigam Aggarwal, Senior Scientific Officer, Department of Environment, Ministry of Forest & Environment and Government of NCT Delhi presented PowerPoint presentation depicting how Yamuna River gets polluted when it travels its flow path in Delhi. She emphasized on spreading awareness at the Community level to save the river from further detoriation as it is the lifeline of Delhi. Also, she started on the crucial role to be played by young learners of schools through Eco Club Activities.
After here, Mr. Ajay Gupta, Chief Engineer (Planning). Delhi Jal Board, Government of NCT Delhi, presented his powerpoint presentation. Mr. Gupta acquainted the gathering about the efforts taken up by Delhi Jal Board to combat the discharging of sewage, the main cause of pollution of the river. He earmarked that Interceptor Sewage Treatment Project of budget of Rs. 1395 crores will soon be executed along with upgrading of pre-installed STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) with latest techniques, to treat the sewage before discharging in the river.

Mr. Sharad Kumar, superintendent Engineer, DSIIDC (Delhi State Industrial & infrastructure Cooperation Limited), Government of NCT Delhi, though his powerpoint presentation highlighted the role of industries in polluting the river and steps taken up so far to combat and reduce the risk of industrial pollution.
Last but not the least, Mr. Tapeshwar, Directorate of Education, Government of NCT Delhi, presented action plan for DOE schools, which are organizing paintings and poster making competitions, nukkad natak, visit to Bio-Diversity Park, pledge in the morning assembly & much more. These activities are to be organized under the banner of Eco-Club and simultaneously spreading message to the community to follow 5 R’s (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rethink).
Finally, the programme was concluded with vote of thanks and gathering dispersed with a determination to aware the community to save & conserve the lifeline of Delhi River Yamuna.
